About Us
We are a busy, inclusive, community church, sitting a little outside the famous city walls, along what is known locally as ‘Bishy Road’ ( Bishopthorpe Road). We are proud to be one of the Methodist churches in York, that can offer same-sex marriage. We support Pride and are a spiritual home for those who would self-describe as being in the LGBTQ+ community. We just think of them as part of our family!

This vibrant cosmopolitan area of York is full of quirky independent shops and food outlets, and served by the beautiful Rowntree’s Park, which has activities for all the family. Our church echoes our community. We offer the usual church activities, Sunday worship, prayer and study groups, children’s work as well as hosting many community groups.
The church partners with ‘Seek Art School’ who offer a variety of painting and drawing classes, and host a community of 20 artists ‘Southbank Studios’ in a set of art studios on our upper floors. The walls of the church and its rooms, are host to many of the artist’s works, and we run a ‘gallery cafe’ on a Saturday morning to enable access to even more.
We also partner with Planet Food, who take waste food, and as well as being able to pick up a back each week, also turn it into a 3 course meal. Their thursday cafe is a place where church members, artists, laies/gents who lunch, busy professionals, environmental activists and those in need of a little extra help gather around tables and enjoy one another company.
Most recently we have worked together, as a community to establish a community garden, with beds that grow flowers, herbs and produce for the cafe, as well as being a tranquil space to rest and reflect. There is a small volunteer team who meet monthly, and often in between, which you’d be most welcome to join.
