Head away from the city centre and in Bishopthorpe Road you will pass through a very good local shopping area, before heading up a hill. You will find the church at the top of the hill on the corner of Bishopthorpe Road and Southlands Road, near a spot at one time occupied by a windmill. The church has its own nine-space car park with access from the top of Nunmill Street, a road which runs almost parallel to Bishopthorpe Road. But there is a public pay-and-display car park at the bottom of the hill near the shops in Bishopthorpe Road where there is a small charge.

Alternatively,  on weekdays, there is a half-hourly bus service, the No. 11 for Bishopthorpe which passes the church. Catch it in the city centre at Ousegate, Rougier Street or York Railway Station, and ask to be put off at the “Southlands Methodist Church” or “Bewlay Street” bus stop which  is opposite the church. You can also catch a No. 26 (hourly) for Knavesmire or a No. 21 for Colton at York Railway Station – both of these pass the church.

On Sundays the No. 500 bus, which passes Southlands, can be caught at York Railway Station every 70 minutes during the day. This bus also serves Woodthorpe and Bishopthorpe.
