Empowered by God's Spirit, our mission is to demonstrate our love for God through Jesus Christ, our love for each other and God's love for the world.
WELCOME to the website for Southlands Methodist Church in the historic city of York.
If you live in York or you are visiting our great city you will be very welcome to join us for worship (at 10:30 every Sunday, except where otherwise stated). We are only five minutes or so outside the city walls on the road which heads out towards Bishopthorpe.

At Southlands we believe we have a special calling to work in the community in which we are set, including actively witnessing for our Lord and maintaining a programme of work with children and young people, young adults and older people in the area.
These are some of the groups and activities on offer ...
- the Southlands Singing Group
- a popular Junior Club for children
- Messy Church (an ecumenical project in this part of York with St Chad's),
- uniformed groups for girls and for boys
- a week-long holiday kids club in the summer holidays
- a 3½-hour kids event in most school holiday periods
- a fellowship group for older members
- men's activities
- a walking group and
- support for various charities.
Explore the pages on this website to find out more about what we are up to and how God is leading us. Better still, come and visit us to share in worship and chat with our folk.
You are welcome to come along to any of the groups or activities which are of interest to you - and if you want to get involved in helping to run any of these activities, volunteering for charity work or offering a musical talent, speak to our church leaders.
At first sight our premises are typical of those built in the Victorian era, but we have a modern, welcoming worship centre, a useful suite of meeting rooms and a community centre which is home to most of our work with children and young people. The community centre and some of our rooms are available for hire on Saturdays, on some other days and on occasional evenings during the week at quite reasonable charges so get in touch with Room Bookings Officer Wyn Lawrence on York 639231, or email her on email@example.com
For further information, see under "Room hire".
Church groups visiting York, or organisations planning one-day conferences, are invited to try Southlands hospitality. Our catering team can provide lunches and teas on the premises by prior arrangement. Again, contact room bookings secretary Wyn Lawrence (tel York 639231), or email her on firstname.lastname@example.org.
